Mt. Biking: Chilterns etc Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 16... Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 43.6 mph (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 78.9 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
I put in a long road ride to gear myself up for the HONC next weekend. I've
studied the route MAP from Paul / and have now uploaded it to my Garmin
GPS. I bet I'm the only one who does this - a bit geeky, but dead
useful!
Today I did just under 80 miles! I rode to work at 6am in record time 18.8
in 1-2'. After hard graft in the office (like hell), I left Stevenage and
headed towards the Chilterns for some hills.
Through the lanes to Codicote along the RR course I remember.... To
Wheathapstead then on to Harpenden and Redbourn. Skirting Hemel to the
north and then climb up to Gadebridge and Potten End.
Down to Berkhamsted and then climb again to the posh Wr Twr with the silly
roof and over the A41. Then it got interesting - I past the Rose and Crown
the best pub in the Chilterns say CAMRA and then climb up to 260m through
Buckland common Chivery and down to Wendover.
Then turn out the wind for home thro Aston Clinton - past Wilstone Res and
on to Ivinghoe. Then along the Cheddington RR course where I had a good
result many years ago. Then flat lands to Leighton Buzzard and climb up
towards Woburn, but cheat and turn right to Potsgrave beforehand.
On the final leg home - I ran over a live rabbit. It ran out from me, saw a
car turned arounf, squelch. There are so many it was going to happen
eventually. I ran over an adder once - but he was flat already...
Nice ride. My legs hurt - which was the general idea and the HONC is 62
miles next w/e....
